چکیده

Infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) has been used to study the adsorption of carbon monoxide on a Pd(ll1) surface. IRAS spectra were collected at temperatures from 100 to 1000 K and at pressures from 1.0 x lo-’ to 10.0 Torr. The IRAS data at temperatures > 250 K showed the coverage versus temperature behavior anticipated from the data acquired under UHV conditions. However, at temperatures < 250 K, multiple CO adsorption structures were observed which were dependent upon the adsorption temperature and pressure. The low temperature/ low pressure adsorption data extrapolate to the high temperature/ high pressure regime only if appropriate adsorption conditions are employed.

Understanding the catalytic conversion of automobile exhaust emissions using model catalysts: CO+NO reaction on Pd(111)

The CO+NO reaction is one of the profoundly important reactions that take place on Pd-based industrial three-way catalysts (TWC). In this review, we discuss results from polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRAS) and conventional IRAS experiments on CO adsorption, NO adsorption and the CO+NO reaction on a Pd(111) model catalyst surface within a wide range of p...

Steady-State CO Oxidation on Pd(111): First-Principles Kinetic Monte Carlo Simulations and Microkinetic Analysis

Using a kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) approach with parameters derived from first-principles calculations, we modeled the steady-state of CO oxidation on Pd(111), a prototypical catalytic system with various practical applications, including the treatment of automotive gas exhausts. Focusing on the metallic phase of the catalyst, we studied how the rate of CO oxidation depends on temperature and pr...

Evidence for structure sensitivity in the high pressure CO1NO reaction over Pd[111] and Pd[100]

The chemisorption of coadsorbed CO and NO has been studied over Pd~111! and Pd~100! at 1310 Torr using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy. At a pressure ratio of PNO/PCO5 1, the ratio of adsorbed NO to adsorbed CO, @NOa#/@COa#, increased with temperature over both single crystal surfaces. Furthermore, the @NO#a/@CO#a was significantly higher on Pd~111! than on Pd~100! in the temperatur...

Interaction of CO with Surface PdZn Alloys

The adsorption and bonding configuration of CO on clean and Zn-covered Pd(111) surfaces was studied using Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED), Temperature Programmed Desorption (TPD) and High Resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (HREELS). LEED and TPD results indicate that annealing at 550 K is sufficient to induce reaction between adsorbed Zn atoms and the Pd(111) surface resulting ...

NO dimer and dinitrosyl formation on Pd(111): from ultra-high-vacuum to elevated pressure conditions.

Using in situ polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRAS) and conventional IRAS techniques, the adsorption of NO on Pd(111) was studied from ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) conditions to 400 mbar. New monomeric and non-monomeric high-coverage NO adsorption states were observed at 400 mbar. Initial NO adsorption at 600 K and subsequent cooling in the presence of 400 mba...
